Our spring 2010 athletic season is coming to a close, and we are wrapping up perhaps the most successful year ever for Sagemont Athletics!

Our girls' varsity softball team, led by head coach Jon Johnson and assistant coach Gina Florio, had their best regular season ever finishing with a 7-12 record. The girls won their first ever district tournament game defeating Westminster Academy by a score of 11-10 in the semi finals. The girls advanced to the district championship game, eventually falling in the final to Calvary Christian 5-0, giving the girls the district runner-up trophy!

The boys' varsity baseball team, under the direction of head coach Tommy Martinez and assistant coaches Jose Guzman, Tommy Martinez Jr., and Eddie Suarez Jr., had a year of growth and saw themselves improving throughout the season. The boys will be squaring off against Calvary Christian in the first round of their district tournament.

This was the first year for Sagemont to carry a boys' JV baseball program, and the boys responded with some incredible games. Led by head coach Pat Iacono and assistant coach Eddie Suarez Jr., they played a short season with some of the players sharing time with the middle school and varsity teams, but went 1-2 in their first season and will look to improve on that and build this team in the future.

The boys' and girls' varsity track and field team, led by head coach Teyah Hardy and assistant coach Deanna Burch, had a tremendous season this year in the second year of the program. They were competitive in all of their meets and even had their first individual qualify for the regional level in the shot put. Erica Correa qualified for the regional tournament this year as an 8th grader; congratulations Erica!

The boys' varsity volleyball team, led by head coach Ore Pablos, has had a great season so far with a regular season record of 6-5. The boys are hoping for their first ever berth into the district tournament for boys volleyball. Good luck boys!

The girls' varsity tennis team, led by head coach Mel Spence, had a great year playing some of the top talent in Broward, Dade, and Palm Beach County! The girls took the district runner up trophy this year at their district tournament, great job ladies!

The boys' varsity tennis team, also led by head coach Mel Spence, had a terrific season as well, as they took home their 7TH consecutive district championship at their district tournament. They then defeated Pope John Paul II in the regional semi finals to advance to the regional championship and played American Heritage Delray. The boys played tough but eventually lost to American Heritage 4-2. In addition, Zach McCourt and Antonio Pena both qualified for the FHSAA state tournament.

Our middle school programs are doing great and getting ready to play at the varsity level!

The co-ed middle school tennis team, led by head coach Steven Browne, had some very tough matches this season; many of them ending 3-2, but the players learned a lot about the game and will look to build on that next year!

The boys’ middle school baseball team, led by coaches Pat Iacono, Eduardo Suarez Sr., and Eddie Suarez Jr., have had a great season going 4-1 so far at press time. The boys are looking for a return trip to the IAL league championship game this year in May!
