Thespian News

Fifteen students from The High School Thespian Troupe 6915 represented The Sagemont School at the Florida State Thespian Competition in Tampa. They spent five days in downtown Tampa, along with Ms. Garrard and Ms. Wertman, attending workshops, theatrical performances, competitions, and networking events.

The students had the opportunity to attend full length and One Act plays presented by other students from High Schools throughout the state of Florida. They also attended a workshop presented by Los Angeles Filmmakers Edmund and Gary Entin. The Entin brothers also allowed The Sagemont School Thespian Troupe 6915 to view a private screening of their upcoming film, Little Men. They have agreed to write a One Act Play version of the film, which our students hope to present at the District 13 One Act Festival next November.

The students came away from the festival with high markings in all of their competitive events. The scores are as follows:

Sesquipedalien; Sebastian Bruno Harris, Solo Pantomime: SUPERIOR

The Substance of Fire & A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Christopher Merlino, Monologue: SUPERIOR

When Words Fail from Shrek the Musical; Dean Malahias, Solo Musical Theatre: EXCELLENT

In addition to their high scores at the state level, two of our thespians were thrilled to discover upon returning to South Florida that they had been nominated regionally by the Cappies (Critics Award Program) for their outstanding performances in “The Mystery of Edwin Drood.”
