Critics Award Program
Cappies stands for the Critics Award Program. The club gives students the opportunity to watch a wide variety of High School plays and musicals in the South Florida Community. Students are trained as theatre critics.
The Cappies watch drama productions at other participating schools. A mentor at the school leads the students in a discussion of the production, and students are then assigned to write an honest critique of the play or musical. The students are given the opportunity to have their writing published in local newspapers such as the Sun Sentinel and teenlink.com. Cappies nominates outstanding young thespians and the end of the year there is Cappies Awards Gala held at the Broward Convention Center. This provides the opportunity for young actors and writers to receive recognition for their work.
