From their first piece of art to their final curtain call, our students explore the arts in a way that builds skill, sparks their imagination, and celebrates expression. Inspired by alumni like award-winning singer and actor Sebastian Yatra, our students are encouraged to dream big on stage, in the studio, and beyond. Schedule A Tour Who is Sebastian Yatra? What You Can Expect Elementary Slide 1 Slide 2 Slide 3 Overview In the elementary years, our students begin learning about the performing and visual arts. We help them grow their skills, be creative, and work together. In Preschool and Pre-K, they start to learn music through moving, singing, playing instruments, and listening to different sounds. As they grow, they learn to read music by clapping rhythms, singing notes, and noticing how music changes. They also learn about famous composers, music from around the world, and play both pitched and unpitched instruments. Performing Arts In musical theatre, our students learn how to act, sing, and dance. They try roleplaying, improvisation, and choreography exercises. These activities help them feel more confident on stage. Older students work together to practice and perform short musicals with stories, costumes, and props. In 4th and 5th grade, our students start drumming. They use buckets and learn rhythms from Africa and Latin America. They play together in groups and learn how to keep a steady beat. Middle & High School Slide 1 Slide 2 Slide 3 Overview In middle and high school, our students refine their art skills, explore advanced techniques, and gain experience aligned with professional standards in the arts. They take classes in theatre, music, and media broadcasting, where they engage in projects that enhance their creative and technical skills. Performing Arts In Technical Theatre, students learn stagecraft, including lighting, costume design, set building, sound, and makeup. They analyze scripts, study historical and cultural contexts, and apply their learning through participation in live productions. Safety, collaboration, and time management are key components of the program. Through our Media Broadcasting class, students learn digital storytelling, production, and editing. They write scripts, produce video and audio content, and learn to manage the full scope of a multimedia project. They also create original podcasts and news features. These projects help with communication, ethical awareness, and presentation skills. The Musical Theatre program builds student confidence and performance ability. Our students continue learning how to act, sing, and move on stage. They rehearse and perform scenes from musicals, explore character development, and see how choreography and staging help tell the story. Our students can take guitar and keyboard lessons (levels I–IV). They learn how to read and interpret music and perform in groups. They show what they have learned by performing in front of others. There are also classes for Percussion and Rock Band. In Rock Band, our students can audition to be part of a group that plays at concerts and school events. They also work on refining composition, line quality, and mark-making. Each project gives them the freedom to be creative while working within defined guidelines. Our 3D art classes focus on ceramics and sculpture. Our students work with clay, plaster, and other materials to explore space, mass, volume, and form concepts. They create aesthetic or functional works while learning to evaluate form, scale, and material properties. Students also learn photography. They explore traditional darkroom methods and digital imaging. They explore techniques like 35mm, cyanotypes, and pinhole cameras. They learn how cameras work and how to take great photos. Our students also share their pictures with others and talk about how to make them better. Advanced students can take AP Drawing and AP 2D Art and Design. These classes are college-level and help students build a large art portfolio. They get to show their ideas, improve their art skills, and try a range of different materials. Teachers and classmates give helpful feedback, and students keep working to make their art even better. Their best work can be sent to the College Board or used for college applications.
